Can anyone recomend places to stay in the van in the lake district? (we're taking the dog)
Cos we're off to gretna in our campevan mid august to get married! We've booked a couple of nights in a nice hotel overlooking lake windemere and then we've got the rest of the week to tour the lake district in our van. Can't wait to hit the road!
cheers all

Castlerigg at the foot of Walla Crag close to Keswick . Get buzzed by tornado's and fat alberts though. There is a stone circle if that's your thing (barking at the moon) nice site though.

PSSSS!!!!
marandali!!!
PSSSS, Yeh you come over here,
As its such a special occasion i will give you the perfect heads up on my most favorite campsite in the world
Its at Wasdale in the lakes and we have stayed their a few times over the years now and it is amazing. The site is a national trust site and overlooks the lake and serves as a gateway to some of the best walks in the lakes. I think it is about £8 per night per van and trust me you wont be disappointed.
This is the first time we went
And this is on our way up to Scotland early this year
hope you try it out as i know you will remember it forever

try Wasdale and definitely not Low Wray.
There is site called Scottsgate nr Keswick - but get a spot in the village green side of the site. Lots of sleeping spots all over the Lakes too

if you get over to the west , more Eskdale than the Lakes . Nice site called Fisherground, used to be able to have campfires. Well located if you fancy taking your van over Hardknott pass

First, congratulations!
Now, I stayed at a place called Park Foot camp site. It's half a mile from Lake Ullswater and Pooley Bridge. It's a bit expensive but a nice site. Nice walk up Barton Fell (think that's what it's called).Google Park Foot for details. You will also be only about 15 miles from Carlisle.
