I have not had my camper for long and things have been great, out camping every weekend for last 6 weeks. I would go away this weekend but there is no fuel going to the carbs.

It is a 1982 2l Aircooled T25 before I go any further.

Checked fuel in tank, changed fuel filter. Whilst tracing the fault I have changed the fuel lines as I went. Badly needed it. Fuel goes into the Fuel pump but not out as I crank the engine over. I guess that the fuel pump is faulty. Checked the little fuel filter inside, no problems.

Went to remove the fuel pump but there is a bit of tinware in the way. Screw heads are badly corroded with no chance of screwing them off. I would drill them out but worried about getting the bit of tinware back on.

So... I am really not a lazy person but can I fit an electric fuel pump in its place?

the mech fuel pumps are obsolete in any case.. only benefit of removing is to take the pushrod out that actuates...

I checked and you are right. To replace the mech fuel pump it would have to be a second hand one.

Is there any reason why I should remove the pushrod? The pump is not leaking any petrol into the engine. Yet?

If I fit an electric fuel pump would I need to regulate the pressure? The fuel pumps fitted to the fuel injected models are far higher pressures.

pushrod out just relives the pressure on the actuating arm which is redundant... bypass the mech pump.. dont leve the hoses connected..
depending on what pump you get, yes you may have to regulate the pressure..

sure someone will be along that has either setup and can recomend what pump to use..
I seem to remember that a bedford rascal one works well (carb engine version).... but could be wrong...

the only reason to take the push rod out is economy really, if you cant get it off, dont worry about it....... it wont leak petrol into the engine once you have a electric fuel pump the petrol lines wont even go to the mechanical pump.........

lower pressure pumps are available, peiburg ones are expensive, but very good........ i had one once..........

facet do a small solid state one thats suitable too.
