Hi,

I've dropped out my near death water boxer and have my 2.0 Aircooled ready to lift in there.

(Yes I know everyone will moan but I like Aircooled its simple like me)

I'm just wondering if there any any pit falls I need to know about before I start to save me time and money?

Also if anyone has any pictures, howto's etc etc that would be really great,

Ok well the first pit fall seems to be that the fuel pump on the 2.0 Aircooled is near the bottom right of the bell housing (rather than top middle on water cooled and my type 2) and so you can't join the block to the housing with it in place.

Anyone know a fix for this?

Am I going to have to grind a small slot into the bell housing or is there a different fuel pump I can use?

Any idea if there a pre-fab blanking plate for the pump anywhere save me having to make my own?

someone used to make the blanking plates, but i cant remember who it was, it was many moons ago....... so no help really....... shouldnt take a lot to make one, just remember to take the push rod out tho, unlike someone a few years ago.........who didnt....... hehehe.......

you may find also that the tinwear will be tight against the baulkhead, because iirc the wbx gearbox is slightly shorter than the Aircold, but you should be able to adjust it on the nose mouunt.........

apart from throttle cable not being long enough, and the brake servo vac pipe being too long, and ofcoarse the alternator wires not being long enough, i cant think of anything else engine bay wise.......

U lock verses my plasma cutter, about 5 seonds...you've been saying you want a new engine anyway!!

Can't the pump doesn't fit the water cooled bell housing hence the need to replace it.

I can't think of any reason why the 2 litre shouldn't fit straight on to the gear box?????

The boxes have the same bell housing casting.

Make sure you seal the engine well. If you allow hot air from the bottom of the engine into the top, you just keep on getting hotter and hotter.

The boxer has a return line from the carb to the tank. Put a proper bung in it.
