Me the wife and our daughter are comming to England for our summer holiday. We are travelling to Devon and Cornwall at the end of July and first week of August. We have no plan just drive and stop where we like and enjoy our time. Normally we don´t reserve a campsite in advance but always find a campsite. I have been told that it is best to reserve a campsite as it is really busy as it is school holidays. what advice would you give ? thanks.

I would say to book for Devon and Cornwall that time of year if you want to get somewhere good to stay without spending all your time being turned away from sites because they are full. Have a look on here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/ There are lots of campsite reviews and you can do a map search to find sites.

use the website suggested above by Rachel and then post on here if you want an extra opinion of some of the campsites - some of use might have used them.

Yes you'll need to book. But - may be worth joining the Camping & Caravanning club. About £28 to join but you can then stay on sites like the one at Sennen Cover for £10 a night (other camp sites in that area charge up to £30 a night!) You'd soon get your membership fee back.

Good tip, I'm staying at their holiday site at Harlyn Bay for a few days on my travels

I just checked out Bluehills site and it says they are fully booked 26th July - 17th Aug and that is when he is in the UK. We are also going here for a few days between Looe and Polperro. At £12.50 a night with EHU it is worth a try - http://www.campingcaradon.co.uk/

Jack, simlpy go with your instincts and drive till you get 'fed up' usually 3,30- 4.00pm and go for the next site you find.......No one in their right mind will ever refuse your cash for a simple overnight stay, unlike if you try book this type of booking has to be declared but the traveler cash is safe in the bank.

PS, there are many to go at apart from the advertised sites which are not always the best to park up at , unless you like the idea of mobile council estates,,,
ie, full of Gobshytes....

I would definately book!

I was in Cornwall in May and stayed at Ayr Holiday Park in St. Ives.

Would recommend it as it's a lovely site with top class toilet/shower block and only a ten minute walk into St. Ives it's self abeit it's up hill on the way back
