Just been out in the van first time for ages, Started second time ran brill.
Went shoppin with the missus even let her have a go.
Got home parked it in the drive and now the engine wont turn over (suspect its the starter).
Gave it a few taps with me hammer..nothing so towed it with me c3 and bump started it . let it run for ages at a high rev stopped it and tried again and nothing.
All the signs of a stuck starter...Got me battery on charge now just to eliminate that. Is there anything else it could be before i take the starter off and get a new one also wheres a good place to get one, ive seen them on jk for 99 quid whats VW gonna charge and is there any probs getting them on and off..

whoa!
i take it you have checked the spade connection on the solenoid, the signal from the ignition switch?

it is well known for them to become corroded and fall off, or even just not connect.

give us some more info, perhaps we can help more?

Yes Steve that was the first thing i did Ive just been out and tried it again now the batterys been on charge in fact its got that much life you could weld off it.
When i first tried to start the van when i turned the key it gave a weird noise just for a split second my first thought was that it sounded like a fizz when you touch the lugs on a battery with a wire and it sparks?
So ive checked all the connections that i know about .
All lights work and everything else electrical so i think it may be the starter jammed. any thoughts?????????

we had a problem with ours not starting properly a while ago. Thought we would have to get a new starter motor. We'd had a new gearbox fitted however, and the problem turned out to be where the starter motor attaches to the gearbox. There is a small metal thing which spins apparantly, and this had all but broken away, making the starting of the vehicle impossible. It too made a funny noise when you tried. The part only cost a quid! Much cheaper than the cost of a new starter motor, thank goodness!
Might be nothing at all to do with that, but that was what was wrong with ours. -Obviously a mechanic would probably explain it better than that!

Its the starter, well and truly shagged got a new one on and all is better untill the next time :x
Even though i had checked all the connections, cleaned them up, checked the earth strap and boshed it with a big ommer i decided to call out the RAC after all i do pay for their service. He checked all the connections and boshed it with a smaller hammer he said it was shagged too.So now got a new one.

and with your new starter came a bushing, which you soaked in oil for 24hrs and replaced the one in your bell housing, right?

coz if you didnt, you'll be doing it soon.....
