Hello there.

I've got to push my wing mirrors in to fit Westy in the garage. Normally they spring in and spring out - if you know what I mean. Thing is, when I pushed the drivers side in I heard something snap and now it just spins right round.
Anyone got any ideas? They're the big electric sort.

Bernard,,,,,,take a look at the offending mirror, then unscrew the 3 mounting screws from the door and you will find just enough of the wiring will allow it to be worked on.

Take care when you tip it up as the threaded locking ring will slide down the wire,,,,,,,,it is just a matter of re- fitting this ring to the spindle ( may be best to use a pair of long nosed plyers) and getting it tight enough to hold the mirror yet allow you to move it about without it coming loose again.

My suggestion is a bit of lube to be used at the mirrors swivel point (the ball/socket) otherwise the threaded ring does all the swiveling and then falls off.

Thanks Fritz I'll give it a go.

I am having a hell of a job getting my mirror sorted. It was flapping around and after taking the bottom off I found the nut and other bits hanging about. Not very easy trying to get it to screw back on at all, some much so I haven't done it yet! Will try again in the morning before we head off to cornwall

I couldn't do it. I had to cut the wires but luckily it's the drivers side so it's not too important!

eek, I cant even find a way of fudging it to get me going, grrrrrr. Don't really want to cut cables, might just use gaffer tape!

Would be good if you could actually take the mirror out to disconnect cables inside, nothing in haynes at all

to remove mirror a thin screwdriver to turn the bayonet tab anticlockwise iirc then thw mirror and base come out, remove the heater wires and you can then remove the motor housing by undoing the screws holding it to the shell
