changing 1600 Aircooled engine

Hi All,
This is my first post and I'm fairly new to the VW T25 thing so please bear with my ignorance.
I've got a 1600 Aircooled T25 and the engine has just about died. The performance when it was fully alive was dismal so I'm going to swap it to a bigger engine.
I'd like to keep to a VW engine so I'm thinking of trying to put a water cooled 1.9, 2.0 or 2.1 boxer engine into it. Apart from needing to fit a radiator and water piping is there anything else that is going to be different ? Will I be able to use my old 1600 Aircooled gearbox and clutch? If not will a watercooled engine/gearbox etc fit into a 1981 Aircooled 1600 T25 ?
Sorry if these are widely known facts, but I've had a quick look through the forums and can't find anything.
Thanks
Sparky
