how do golf syncro's fare on the off road, does anyone own one or seen them in action..?

Golf Syncros are road cars, they have no ground clearance and no diff locks, rally racing might be a different matter; heavily modified.

VW produced the Golf Country with extra ride height specifically for the 'off road' market but none were RHD in this country as far as i know.

The "Golf country" was not a Off-Road car. It was only a optical tuning for the syncro golf.

The kit was developed in three hours by Steyr-Puch in Austria. In my 100 years Puch book is the full story.
