Aidan has had several boxes through recently with fubared ring and pinions, remember the pinion is actually on the end of the main shaft.. which carriers the gears, if the shaft is fubarred its a throw away too..
Gearbox noises are very expensive if not attended to sooner rather than later..
Oh what gearing is it? as I think virtually all ring and pinion sets are obsolete from VW now....
