Got the new oil filler pipe, fitted it and took it for a test drive.....

Gushing oil everywhere :( Level is from full to below min in 4 miles :(

It looks to be gathering on the tinware below the fan.

Is there anything that end that is a know issue?

I'm thinking the crank end seal. That a good possibility?

2L A/C CU engine.

Sodding bus! Need this for trip away this weekend.

Or is it:-

GSF

11726 OIL SEAL-CRANK REAR T4A All 6.25 Add
11729 OIL SEAL-CRANK-FRONT T4A All 3.75

Which is the front of the engine? Clutch end or fan end?

Doh

Why do they offer Type 4 in the Aircooled section?

So is the crank seal going to be the most likley culpret? I can't get it to bits till this afternoon.

Laurie is that code for a CU engine?

ok - if you want the Aircooled t25...it seems to be listed with the watercooled section - ie find t25 in the water cooled list - bung clutch in, and you will find the 2 ltr aricoioled listed with it.

Not sure what all the Aircooled related to...but all seems to be the early stuff - beetles (type 1) through to variants (type 4) I think!!

we had the same problem after doing an oil change we started leaking oil very very badly.
Garage diagnosed the problem to be the rear crank oil seal.
They had to wash the engine to see where it was leaking from and found it to be the above.
After fitting a new crank seal the oil (touch wood) has stopped leaking :D
Gud luck in fixing yours

Ta, it's not in a very readable format.

I always end up ringing.

It's just an oil seal .... 62mm OD, 42mm ID, 10mm deep (actually doing the sums it's 10mm square profile) I'd ask for 'Viton' ... it has a higher temperature tolerance. Phone a local bearing supplier and they'll no-doubt have one in stock.

Looks like I've fixed it!

New seal was loads tighter than the old which was baggy

Made a new problem at the same time....

I've snapped the bolt on the starter! left about 3mm of thread. I've relay cowboyed it together. Couldn't find any nuts with a longer thread to join the 2 halves together but spotted some of those bolts that sink into wood when tightened. They had 15mm of thread! Screwed it tight onto the starter and threaded the wires onto an m8 bolt, added another nut and screwed into and tightened the whole thing up.

Starts fine 8)
