Hi

Bought a pair of original VW mudguards from flebay Germany and I'm in need of some fitting advice....

I already have the holes in the van for both brackets which is great. The part of the guard that sits against the van has 2 pins (as per photo) that are meant to go into the side of the van. On one of the guards these pins are missing, I don't really want to drill into the side of the van and I was wondering has anyone else fitted these without drilling into the side of their vans? If so does it work?
I'm thinking they should be secure enough with both brackets. I guess there will be a gap but I was thinking I could use some black mastic to fill any gaps?

Any views or ideas much appreciated. I wont be fitting for a few days as Im stripping and spraying the metal parts.

they are bolted through the bodywork.. and are usually syncro style.. Maybe actually gluing that part to the body with "sikaflex" is an option, but you need to make sure they are set to the right position before sticking.. and that any of the rust on them has been treated and painted as sikaflex doesnt come off easy and you wont want to be buggering about with it in a years time....

I'd be tempted to just cut the top bit of rubber off altogether

im cleaning up the metal bits at the mo then ill see how they fit and make a decision to chop or to stick

thanks mate, had never heard of that stuff I may just lob the top off them but who knows

What do those bolts go into in the rubber of the mudflap?. I had a problem on the headlight washer jets where a bolt was missing. I used sikaflex to fill the hole where the stud had been, and then pushed in a new stud. After leaving it for a day it was rock hard. If those bolts have left a hole, you could sort it out that way. I have also done this with a hot glue gun.

yes they go into the rubber on a screw thread, i could easily replace the bolts and drill into the van but I'd like to avoid adding any holes i dont have to
