How our first proper camping hol in the van finished:

Daughter was in floods of tears :(

Its not drawing in the fuel to the carb. I assumed this was the fuel pump gone but brother in law said it could be blockage.
Went and tried to drink (suck in) fuel from the fuel pump inflow but couldn't really do it. So thought blockage.
However when I blew down it air came out thorugh the connection to the fuel filter; tank side of filter not pump.
On our van this filter is just a foot from the fuel pump.

Right daft question but I'm not mechanic so checking, to me this suggest that if I replace the fuel line that seems to be spent and
replacing it could solve the problem? Presumably the fuel pump was sucking in air thorugh the leak more than fuel.
Does this make sense?

I did try to re attached tightly the jubilee clip to the filter but same problem. The fuel pipe is one of those fabricy looking ones
rather than the rubber sort that seems to be used almost everywhere else for fuel lines in the van.

Van 84 1.9 petrol. Mechnical fuel pump

Cheers for any advice/thoughts.

you should only have one filter and thats the one just after the tank.check this one it might need replacing...

Will do. I saw the haynes manual seemed to have the filter underneath the van somewhere but just assumed ours was different place.

Cheers

cant comment on the problem but your van was way overweight for a 3.5 ton recovery truck

Can you suck fuel up the pipe from the tank - from the tank side of the filter? If not then the bottom of the tank is probably full of crud/rust blocking the outlet from the tank or the pipe itself is blocked. If there is a leak in the pipe/filter when you blow down it, then it must also be leaking fuel? Personally if it all checks out I would run a new length of pipe from the tank and reposition(renew) the filter where it should be - a little way from the tank under the van. *Make sure the filter is fitted with the flow pointing in the right direction also.
