Upgrading from 2 to 3 point seat-belts in rear

I want to fit 3 point inertia reel belts in the back of my camper. At the mo I have a pair of 2 point lap straps which are anchored to the angled panel beneath the bench seat.
My question is can I fit the 3 point utilising the existing holes of the lap straps and by drilling one more hole on the same angled panel to locate the inertia reel? The shoulder belt would then go up from the reel behind the backrest and then over it before coming down across the passenger's body to lock in the buckle as before.
I've looked at the wiki but that just describes fitting the reel behind the trim panels which is difficult on the non-cupboard side and impossible on the cupboard side!
Has anyone tried it this way? I know it won't be as secure as the conventional C Pillar shoulder mounted strap but it's an improvement on the simple lap strap.
Opinions/lessons learned appreciated.
