ace pics , mikey -- still prefer outer hebrides , tho.
we had a lovely trip a coupla years back , the dogs were so pleased to see us on docking at stornoway after a WILD crossing , they swore they had been good , and we believed them until , last thing , i opened the drivers door, that footwell thingy (that gets so rusty !) was 6" deep in "it"-.....chust flowed away onto the car deck....

Used my Panasonic LX1 (compact digi 8.4mb) not really that flash - comes with a 28mm lens and a 16:9 panoramic format meaning you can get nice landscapes with full 8.4MB resolution.
It is difficult to take bad ones when the scenery is that good m- and they have had 6 weeks without rain.....
We started from Vatersay - then headed up via Barra, SOuth Uist, North Uist to Harris (Scalpay) and then Bernera (on Lewis) then the West of Lewis finally East Lewis and Stornoway - Ullapool - then home (in Just over an hour from Ullapool!)
Vatersay has some amazing beaches - but then so did all the other places we stopped. A bit of research on Google Earth and you can see aerial photos of all the sleepy spots we used.

Sounds excellent, my favourite remote place in Scotland is Applecross. Absolute amazing.
I've been using my Nokia N95 for photos which is 5MP, does the trick so far.

That place looks incredible. Reminds me why its good to have a waste water tank. Could you let me know (by pm or reply here) which islands you visited and how much the ferries are ?

Great pics Mikey, superb locations. I seem to remember beaches near Mallaig have a similar white sand.
Those dusk shots are just brilliant. Looks like a great wee holiday.
Any midge on the go?

Fantastic pics, Ang and I went to Harris a couple of years ago, went to see An Clisham (a mountain), Angela's surname is Clisham, also seen a beautiful cottage for sale called Clisham View, Ang not keen, nearest Morrisons was in Stornaway,

Just got back from a visit to Skye. Stayed at a site called Portnadoran near Mallaig on the way back south. Think they call the area Silversands, what a beautiful place, miles of silver/white beaches, check this out for a sunset.

Aye that's the place mate, not that you can tell the colour of sand from your stunning pic
Its a scary ride to Mallaig, the road winds its way through a forest if I remember right. Still worth the effort, beautiful place.

Stay at port na doran regularly only 2 1/2 3 hours away. Just as matter of interest it means bay of otters. The white sands of morar are just what they say on the tin. Pete the road has been upgraded to a two lane carriageway (takes some of the fun out of it) although they have retained some of the single track through the coastal woodland. Anyone visiting the area Arisaig - Mallaig should visit Eigg if they can. The sands have such a high silicone content the squeek and whistle as you walk on it.

For stefvan -
We did an island hopper ticket from oban to barra (5h) (castlebay) the barra to south uist (1h)- then berneray to leverburgh (harris) (1h) then stornoway to ullapool. (3h)
Paid for an under 5m car (!) and two adults (little un free) - I think it was just over £200 for the ferries
We put an old 10 litre plastic bottle on our waste outlet each night (only washu up water and tea remnants really) - this is pretty much all we use - then dispose of either down a drain, public loo or discretely.

Island hopper ticket = Bargain!!
When we went to Mull last year we were 80 quid for the ticket.
Another set of lovely photo's. Looks perfect for little ones.

Hey Mikey thanks again for the info and pictures... I wasn't having a pop about waste honest, I saw the little canister in your photos and agree that we need to treat these beautiful spots with a bit of respect or they'll ban wild camping
