Usual cause is Crankcase pressure, due to worn piston rings,
Check your crankcase breather hose.

No idea...
I have a petrol engine, and my Bently bible is in the van.
It should run from the crankcase to the air filter, there may be a smaller pipe from the cylinder head as well.

Hi guys this van is really getting to me now, i have found a broken peice i think it is some kind of breather pipe it sits on the crank case and has 3 bolts and it comes off, the plasitc peice has snapped and is attached to a pipe, when the engin is running it is sucking in air at this point, could this be my problem with oil from the dipsick cheers alan

That would be the vac pump that is broken. Dont drive the van until you have replaced the top of the pump as you wont have any vacuum for the servo, so braking would be very poor.

Disconnect the pipe and fit a new top to the pump, reconnect the pipe and all should be fine.
