With summer/Plymouth Volksfest coming. I've decided to have a mad rush, frenzied look at why my Diff-locks don't work!

Good points.......

I've got air pressure in the tubing.
The dash pull knobs go in & out.

Bad points.........

Diff-locks don't engage.
No Lights come on in control panel.

Now this last point I never worried about before, but read the other day that it should be flashing if the diff-lock is trying to engage.

Took it to bits.........

Number 4 on the connector always has power
Number 5 has power has power if I turn the lights on.

Was going underneath today to have a poke round but is drizzly.


As a side point fitted the engine cage for the first time (since I've had it) yesterday & there seems alot more vibration now when engine really revs up!

defo got vacuum at the diff lock actuator? hard to check with out a vacuum sensor clive has something that will do it , the "suckometer" out of a submarine or something. if you have got vac then you need to remove the difflock actuator/s not a nice job. Easier/only possible on the rear with inner CV disconnected and rear wheel off. undo the two bolts that hold the unit on pull the blue unit back gently this will reveal the roll pin that connects the shafts to gether, tap it out with a 3mm? punch and if you have a second pair of hands get them to hold a extension magnet against it so you dont lose it when it comes free, an idea to have a spare from VW any way. you can leave the metal cage in place. you need to work the gearbox pin in and out with lubricant to free it up, if your lucky. Note it will only go its full travel when the geary bits inside have lined up, so you may need to rotate the wheel a bit (cv back on). If you are lucky the repeated movement may unstick it. Also check the vacuum unit is working by sucking on both pipes and watching for movement. If this doesn't clear it it may be a trip to Aiden syncrobox doctor with it.
