Fitting exhaust - every nut rusty different

Type 25 camper - 1982 water cooled- engine code DG. I am trying to remove the old exhaust system and nuts to head seems different sizes or rusted to nothing. Any ideas,hints or bodges.

Second that - I'm about to do mine and a guy who has removed many an exhaust said splitting the nuts is the way to go - sounds painful!
