Keep your standard alternator, and go for a Sterling digital alternator charger. I have one on my van, for my 160amp hour leisure battery, if needed the standard alternator can put out about 97 amps. The Sterling gadget also tells you what it's doing, and when it will be finished. Never have a flat leisure battery again, also does the 4 stage charging at 14.7 volts, so battery should last longer. brilliant bit of kit.

The standard Bosch 90 amp alternator on my bus can put out nearly 50 amps just at tick over.
The computer tells the alternator what it wants, and the batteries get it big time.
This is the way forward.
