1Y engine bottom pulley issues?

I have been reading through the posts on the bottom Pulley for the 1Y engine and it has been stated that you MUST change the bottom pulley on the 1Y engine to be safe.

I have phoned both GSF and the VW garage in search of both a new pulley and the bolt.

GSF do not sell it and the VW garages in the Gloucester area do not stock either. In fact of the three VW dealers none have sold a single pulley or bolt in the past 3 years for the 1Y engine.

This kinda makes me think that the 1Y engine does not suffer the dreaded pulley issues. I don't want to disturb the pulley for the sake of it.

So has anyone ever had issues with this engine?

I am guessing the one you removed was ok though?

I removed the bottom pully so i could replace the front crankshaft oil seal. The engine had done 70.000 miles and as the crank end is like the AAZ i thought it wise to replace the pulley&bolt. There was nothing wrong with the pulley or key on removal though.I used the 1.6td water pump + pulleys running on a single belt to the alternator.

1y is same as AAZ, i don't believe they have not sold them in 3 years. I sell loads of them.

Can someone go through this with me please...

Are you saying that when fitting a 1Y, you are advised to change the pulley wheel and bolts ?

Why?

Cheers

Yes new pulley(the ones the cam belt runs on) and bolt and change to t25 belt setup if you still have it, if keeping the 1Y belt you need a free wheeling alternator pulley.
