I'm finding it increasingly difficut to find reverse gear.
The box doesn't seem sloppy and it seems no different apart from reverse do you think this is the balljoint at the base of the gearstick or the linkage further down?
many thanks Rob.

My guess, but it is just a guess is that its that the linkage needs adjusting under the van...

You should be able to almost 'feel' whether the lever's gate is blocking it, under the floor. If the floor level balljoint is own, it won't help, but often the spring moves or weakens making ot slip through the gate into reverse too easily!

Have you read the Wiki on the floor joint repair?

Get someone to move the lever into reverse position while you look at the gate box from underneath maybe.

If it goes into reverse at all and reverse itself is OK, most likely the linkage, somewhere. Start at the lever, but its very easy to check the slop at the rear bushes too. Those slider bushes can be replaced fairly easily, though never returns it to 'as new'. Lots of Wiki on all this...
