Windscreen replacement

I am fitting my new screen today. Any tips and do I need a sealer? (If so what type?). Tried, but can't find any info on here!

I have now succesfully fitted my new screen and seal. Hopefully dry feet from now on

Hi, I'm a novice so probably not the best person to ask but....
Clean up area around "frame". (Get the correct sealer,I begged some from local screen fitting place). Fit surround/seal to screen. Now the clever bit: Push a length of rope into the "slot" in the seal, where it will fit on to lip of screen surround, and leave a couple of feet spare (Feet as in measurement, not your own feet.. you'll need them to stand on!). I pushed the top of screen in to position first. with an asistant pushing the seal/screen firmly in to aperture, you pull on the string into the inside of the van. This should pull the lip of the seal into position. Do it a little at a time so that assistant can keep up with you. They should be pushing in the same place as the string is being pulled. When the lip is all pulled over you may/will have to push the seal with a block of smooth wood or similar to seat it fully. Note I said push! Don't hit it!
I'm sure there's something I've missed but no doubt someone will correct me. Good Luck!
BTW, I used nylon string/rope about half as thick as a standard washing line. About 4mm thick I think (not into metric!).

I am guesing you are in London area due to the West Ham emblem. If I am wrong and you are close to York I do not mind helping you.

What sort of condition was the aperture in, was there much rust?

hi, there was a little surface rust on the corners , and several HOLES

on the bottom edge. (4 actually, none bigger than a £1 coin). I cleaned up, used rust killer, welded good metal in and then sprayed the bottom of the aperture with satin black paint. Looks like one of those transfer things that make screen look bigger. Worst part is rubbing down and waiting for paint to dry (hoping it doesn't rain in the meantime!). I also sprayed sides of aperture because I am doing a colour change on the top half.

Megs - have you any pics of the repairs to the aperture - I am pretty sure we have the same condition - I would like to see what it is like before I open that can of worms.....

Sorry, I didn't take any pics.

Can you weld? If there isn't too much corrosion the welding is really just a support for the filler! I know it is actually a structural area but if it's only a few small holes then the "integrity of the panel/strength isn't compromised to any great degree".

(Got that from a MOT sheet). The thing I gave a lot of importance to was treating the rust

to minimise the chance of it recurring. Luckily my van isn't too bad in the rust department so perhaps my aperture was in relatively good nick.
