1y Diesel finding out engine rpms - no tacho

hi,

I put a 1y in last yr, all good. loving it in fact. I modified the ky throttle arm to fit.

One thing thats been bugging me though is I need to find out if the arm is in the right place. Ie when the engine is idleing its at the right speed and also when the throttle is open it opens fully.

So how can i find the engine speed? it doesnt have tacho on the van, that wouldnt work anyhow as alt is a 1y jobby. The alt does have a w connection though.

There are tachos on the net that will work on any w connection, but you connect them, idle the engine then zero them. So thats no good unless i know its idle speed!

Any ideas. do i need a fancy widget? timing light etc etc

many thanks

Blokes in the trade use these as well as magnetic (mechanical ) tachos to measure idle speed accurately rather than taking a reading from a dash tacho .

Your local garage may have one if they are into reparing diesels.

An optical tacho for a relatively low 2 digit price. Don't know if they'll do it again but when they were on specal offer at half price I thought it was rude not to, works very well
