The old coolant pipe problem!!

I've read the articles on wiki about rusty coolant pipes...Mine are rusty and leaking towards the rear of the bus near the rear cross brace,. The metal either side looks good and I thought of using a length of rubber hose, cut the rusty section out and insert the rubber in its place.. has anybody else tried this or is my thinking way off.... would appreciate some thoughts...
