GTI conversion 4-1 tubular manifold.... interested?

If you've done a GTI conversion on diesel mountings you may be aware that possibly the most pain-in-the-a*** bit of the conversion is what to do with the exhaust.
DannyP is currently looking at making an exhaust manifold with equal-length headers that will bolt up to the standard J-pipe. This should give a noticeable release of power over botching something with the JX manifold or making up something to bolt up to the GTI manifold (that fouls the engine mount anyway).
If you're interested post up, so we can gauge interest and we'll take it from there.
Price should be less than a VW JX manifold......

Right, the prototype has been run up and tested vs using a gutted turbo housing on a JX manifold. The results are telling:
JX manifold and butchered turbo housing = under 90bhp
Tubular 4-1 equal length header manifold = 117bhp
Want some? I would if I were installing a GTI lump

Danny's working the cost out in the next couple of days. Will let you know as soon as there's an indicator.
Bear in mind that a JX manifold from VW will set you back over £200..... and rob you of 20-30bhp in this application.....

I have done a few of these conversions.
You need to grind part of the engine mount to fit the downpipe to the manifold.
Using the gti down pipe put it on backwards and cut about 6 inches off the pipe in the z part of it.
Get a 1991 turbo diesel rear box and mount on backwards.
Use the jx down pipe then match it all up and weld together keeping it about 1.5" off the sump.
Cheap and easy. Only probs are on lowered vans with groud clearance.
There ia a company in swansea who will make the system and rear box out of stainless for about £350, box looks good but down pipe 2-1 is only 3" to long and maybe not so good for power.
My version good power and cheap if it needs replacing.
Best of luck

Hey there Diamond,
if these manifolds are possibly still going ahead I would be very interested as I think any labour saving part is great in my eyes. even the second one which was mentionedmight be worth while for me; are you still after making them???

Sorry, didn't get enough interest in them.
