Hi All.

Seen a nice set of Merc alloys with an ET of 37 & are 7.0J deep. Does that mean spaces & are they easy/cheap to get hold of/where from. Already have longer rear bolts.

Should near enough be a straight fit if you already have the longer studs and bolts only 2mm out as T3 ET is 35mm.

Cheers for reply but aren't they deeper 7.0J? Doesn't that make a big difference?

wider rim means you need less ET.. standard 5.5J T25 rim is ET39

on an early bus the std rim is barely 5 mm away from the top wishbone..
the factory alloys are 6J are ET30... I would figure a 7J would need a bit less again..
I have some T4 6.5J ET 45 and they deffo wont go on by as long way...
Might be different for a later bus..

All confussed again!

Are you saying that the ET37 7.0 J, would definately need spaces?

And because the merc ones are 1.5'' wider than standard you would need 1.5'' spaces?

 :?

KarlT,

I may have got this all wrong, I often do....... but as the ET (offset) of the original (39?)(35?) and the Merc wheels (37) are so similar, the centre line of the rims of the Merc wheels will be in virtually the same relative position as the originals, if no spacers are fitted.

But the rims are 1.5 inches wider......... so the inside of the rim will be three quarters of an inch nearer to the top wishbone. The outside of the rim will be three quarters of an inch further out.

At least thats how I understand it.... quite happy to be corrected and apologise for confusion if this is wrong.

Mike

Sorry didn't remember the J Rim part of it, yes you will have to allow for that...

5mm or 10mm spacers and longer rear studs and longer front bolts.

As grun puts it.. if the ET is the same then then its in the same position as the original reletive to the centre of the rim width.. thats why you need to drop the ET to compensate for a wider rim...

beat me to it!

15" or 16" you'll need 10mm, and 17" you'll get away with 6mm, probably, difficult to say without seeing them.
