I know the tyres are big! Anyone ever tried these. Hoping to gear the TDi a little, then lower by 45mm. Wheels are off a Merc. ML tyre size 225/75/16.
Or will this foul the arches or stop me from lowering?
Help appreciated..

Just had a buthchers and reckon the rears might go, but possibly problem with fouling on the front.

It's a close call but I think it'll strike on the front. Sadly (in financial terms) there's only one real way to find out!...

Hi Woodman,
I have just put 17" AMG Aero II Monoblocks on my '91 T3 Transporter with 235/45/17 tyres (all from a Merc). Needed Porsche 911 wheel studs for the rear and Audi A4 wheel bolts for the front. I have found this is the absolute limit without running spacers. Control arms and rims are uncomfortably close on the front. Rears are fine.
Not sure at this stage the issues I will face to lower 50mm (next project).
All in all, a little bit of fiddling around, but they do look pretty damn hot so are well worth it.

Why not run the higher profiles at the rear end only then? Will give you a slight Starsky and Hutch nose down stance but the rear end is where you want the extra gearing effect anyway? I have heard of widths up to 285 going on with adaptors though then you begin to get sliding door issues, i have run 255 at the rear with no gripes tho.
Anyway nose down vans are always kool!

Yeah someone else mentioned that. What d'ya reckon I'd get away with on the front if I ran the rears this big? (obviously dont want to be at 45 degrees!

Anything wider tha 215 is a waste of time as we don't need that grip the speed these go and then thers also the clearance issues but there is LOADS of room for 215 probably with just 10-25mm spacers depending on the actual wheels fitted.
Try and keep the van as level as possibe tho, as I ran mine -60mm at the front on low profiles tyres for a while and it was heavy to steer and all the weight was forwards - well it felt like it!

Here is my T3 with 17x8.5 AMGs as mentioned previously. Have to admit, steering is heavy, but I like 'em.

If you run different diameter tires on front the rear (smaller), expect your front wheels to lock up before rear.
Dry pavement will be okay, but slick wet or snow/ice will be hairy to say the least. Been there, done that.

keep overall diameter the same on the front this keeps the speedo in line!
change the rears no prob, but going too big could mean too much load on the engine!
195 ,205 are best , 215 max unless your going to be working your van
anything over 215 and you will probably be using way more fuel, from my experience
