ok took the van out for madien trip this weekend. fridge doesnt work as per previous posts, engine sounded fine and was all running ok a slight flat spot but nothing out of the ordinary. untill....

Checked water levels and oil levels before trip only went a few miles down the road, before leaving site rechecked water and have used a hell of a lot.
Hubby checked engine and has found out that we have used lots of oil as well and......

A puddle of oil in air filter box.
Oil in breather pipes.
Unsure of where we are losing water from?
Only traveled 15 miles and lost about a pint of water .
There is a bit of white gunk in the tube that runs from top engine crank to the black thing on top of the carbretta.

If you think the engine is knackered what do u think is the best easiest and cheapest engine to replace it with?

ENGINE IS A 1.9 PETROL 4 SPEED (vw t25 autohomes komet conversion 1989)

PLEASE IM IN NEED OF ADVICE AS RUNNING LOW ON FUNDS

how can you say, toy have only driven 30 miles...... top it up, bleed it properly, give it a service, then use it under normal circumstances and keep a eye on what it is doing, it could have been air in the sytem, it may have a leaky pipe, it maybe using water and oil , you need to give it more of a chance.........

the white slimey stuff is more a sign of short journeys than head gaskets on the wbx, as if the water jackets go, the water goes outwards, not into the oil like a inline engine......the white slime is condensation and oil mixing......

clean the breather pipe out properly with petrol and the engine breather joined to the engine, make sure the breather pipe doesn't have a kink in it, mine now has a large spring on the bend to keep its shape and clean up the air box, it was not cutting out was it? if loads and loads of oil was going through the breather it would be suffering when it mixes with the fuel and the air.

dont know about the water check for leaks I suppose, I dont think the white residue in the breather pipe is to do with oil and water more like the oil in the pipe and condensation.

I have really given up with trying to fix things on mine now, you find more things wrong than you look for and half the time you cause more problems trying to fix things that are simply already like that :D
