Ignition barrel removal and replacement

Hi Guys,
I've recently bought a replacement lock set for my 1990 Caravelle.
The door locks and tail gate lock are nice and easy to fit, but I'm not sure about removing the old ignition barrel and fitting the new one.
Is this a fairly straight forward job?
Any advice much appreciated.

Hi roughly from memory, unscrew steering cowl screws remove horn press and the 24mm nut below it, remove S wheel and the indicator stalks . Pull out the electrical connectors on the back of the ignition barrel if you havent already. There is a nut that unscrews to remove the ignition barrel, BUT you must have the key in the lock to disengage the steering lock if it is on. should pull of then, refitting is reverse etc...

Thanks for that
All sounds easy enough, and I need to remove the steering wheel anyway, as I've bought a replacement.

Have you tried doing this yet? I am about to do the same thing and wonder if it was as straight forward. Can not seem to find the"Nut" to release the barrel thought it was held in by a metal spring which needed to be pushed in.
I shall be having another go real soon will take some photos for evidence!!

Hi Ian,
I've not had chance to fit the barrel yet, simply as I haven't got my van back. I'm picking it up this weekend from the spray shop.
If your doing the same job, and can help with any additional info, that would be great

I have new ignition barrel I want to fit so all my keys match.
I believe there are instructions in the Bently Manual as to where to drill a hole to release the lock. Unfortunately I don't have this manual only a Haynes which doesn't have the Info.
If someone can get me a copy of the distructions of where to drill, then I will change the lock and take some pics for everybody else.
Mike.
