eyup ducks,the missus gets the usual red flashy thing every couple of months or so,it doesnt seem to be drawing out of the reservoir behind the numberplate,i have to top up in the engine bay,took the cap off the other day on lidl and the vacuum nearlly took me soddin yed off!!!,do i need a new reservoir cap(in the engine bay)1y diesel by the way

First port of call is a new genuine blue dalek (pressure cap). If that doesn`t fix it, then you`ll be looking at head or/and gasket problem

Mine did exactly what you`ve described, pressurised the system and held pressure indefinitely, so it never allowed the coolant from the expansion tank to return when the engine cooled down. Cylinder head was severely cracked (scrap), yet the engine worked fine
