Treating Rot

Hi again,
just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to treat some rot on the inside underneath my sliding window. Here's how it looks (apologies for poor quality camera phone photo):

The outside of the window seems fine, just a little bit at the seals. This is pretty serious rot as far as I can see so just wondering how I can stop it spreading any further, if this is even possible.

I also have this on my back window which I would like to nip in the bud:

Any help would be greatly appreciated. These are the only parts of my van that need attention in terms of rust because the outside was resprayed last year and looks pretty good.[/img]

ummm...without taking windows out?

I would get a wire brush, get the worst off. Wet and dry paper to get the top stuff off. Try to get to bare metal where possible.

Buy some vactan or the like, paint it on liberally!

Cover with some vehicle paint.

Keep an eye on it and treat further as necessary?

Not sure if that is the "right" way though

hmmm...
after further reading it seems you can't treat this (it's got holes in it), you can only cut it out and replace it. This sounds like a lot of (expensive) work. I think i'll just look at ways of stopping the rot for now. Heard Vactan mentioned a few times, will get me some of that.

It would also be very important to stop any further moisture from gettin in there.

Looks like your windows are leaking, so they need to be taken out and in again with fresh seals ...which might be a problem if the seals are supposed to seal against a hole :D

Other problem ...if the top of the side panel is that bad, how much worse is it around the bottom, where all the water usually ends up ?
