diff lock actuator problem

Tried to fit new rear diff lock actuator today. Its been missing since I got the van. Bracket is there and rod is free but someone must have removed the actuator before to get to the starter and just noticed the the 3mm pin is still in place with the broken off end of old actuator rod still in place. I will knock out the pin but I think it will be difficult to get the broken bit out. Too cold to bother with it today but anyone had this problem.

Yes,

Seen it a couple of times, couple of things work. Magnet on the end, or squirting in something with a bit of pressure to knock it out - Plus Gas WD40 or somesuch, compressed air if you have any...

Good luck...

Most times u will find the end bit corroded in .Best way to loosen it of
is a drill bit the same diamiter as the actuator rod.Use a drill as if u were
drilling it out. This will eventualy loosen the end bit or just drill it out.
Once loose use an airline to remove.

Hi,

i've got the same problem, i solved it with some oil, a little hammer and a slim magnet.

It took some time, but it worked. Be careful!

Have you removed the splint?

In 2004 a friend of us in Austria, a hobby movie maker, filmed this repairing.

The music is ugly, but the film is the main thing :)

you can download it here (Divx-Codec, 66MB): http://vw.dnsx.de/archive/videos/Repara ... e_2004.avi
