Help with Radio wiring

Hello me again yes I'm still trying to piece together my buy from Germany and I've been spending my pennies already! Well Hubby has too.

So the wiring for the Radio I need some help. Hubby went to the local Halfwits and brought one home so as he's playing solderer with the fog light and I have scrubbed and polished Gromit within an inch of his starter motor I thought I'd tackle the radio.

Some previous owner has ripped and I mean ripped out the old one  and someone has gone to the bother of putting nice colourful lecki tape all over the place but in the sea of brown and red wires how do I connect them to the radio :? - we have some VW connector doobery from Halfwits but that's it.

Anyone done it before or should I bite the bullet and get an auto electrician to do it for me?

Gromit - LHD, 1983, 1.9 Petrol

Thank you muchly

Ash :)

If you have a leisure battery, then run a red lead from it via a 5 amp fuse,(connect to battery after connecting to radio!!) earth it to any plain brown wire or run a brown lead to the earth crown behind the fuse box, speakers will be twin wires one with a tracer(another colour).

in the mess of wires will be a red this one is a live to the radio, and a brown - a negative!! the speaker wires will be grey, purple, green and black, all with a tracer! it is most likely that your van won't have four speakers but two or one! if you only have one speaker it don't matter which pair of speaker wires yuo conect to!, if you have 2 then connect to the black and the white pairs!!! these are frount left and right but i can 't remember which is which!! if all else fails and you have to pay someone to do it, don't let the muppets at halfwits do it!! good luck, if you need any help e-mail or call me! no in profile!!

Thanks for the quick replies...

Will attack tomorrow with the colours in mind.
Its got 4 speakers, 2 in the doors and 2 in the westy interior.

Can't wait, was a long drive doing 700 miles back from Germany listening to the windnoise.

Nothing to do with wiring but I have just recently bought a Sony radio that was reduced to £79.99 at Argos. Same radio was £99 elsewhere online but a whopping £159.99 at Halfrauds

I think I need to find a nice friendly auto electrician as in the see of wires I have red, brown, blue, grey and purple no black or white. I've worked out which speakers are which but there's bits added on and block in it and I'f getting confussed so I'll just need to find someone.

Anyone know a good auto electrician in Peterborough area?
