Hi - My horn seems to have developed a mind of its own - Had to disconect it due to going on and off when it feels like it. 1981 t25.

Any ideas where to start looking for a short?

Begin at the begining perhaps, gently prise out the horn push. You are looking for an intermittant earth somewhere, I would say.

Not much help perhaps but at my age not much chance to get horny.

Hi - yeah will give it a go. Seem to remeber that with a type 2 the steering coloumn had a plastic washer type think on the bottom and this goes/wears it can cause problem with earthing and the horn. Is it the same for a t25? dont have a manual so just checking.

I know the bit you mentioned on the Type 2, but I can't see anything similar in the Haynes for the 25, doesn't mean that there isn't one of course.

The steering column is on a long list of things I have avoided fixing 'cause they ain't broke.

Perhaps one of the 'dash out to fix heater motor' brigade will be back from Pickering shortly to help out. Been several threads on that subject lately, and there was a 'horn not working' post too, I seem to recall.

Lie on the floor and look up under at the horn. Trace the cable to it and I bet somewhere its chaffed against something and its shorting out to earth.

Is it roughly steering related? The horn ring on the steering wheel has probubly worn and thin shards of metal break off and short the horn switch out at random, thus setting off the horn (the horn earths through the steering column so this emulates the horn switch and won't pop fuses).

I ran mine for a bit with no horn fuse and it seemed to fix itself (ish, the horn now seems fine but the other column switches aren't spot on). Prise out the centre of the wheel, undo the bolt and remove the steering wheel (note orientation) - if you've got a worn hornring you'll see what I mean - remove any loose flakes with a file and jobs done!

I doubt this will be any help but mine was doing that too, especially when turning corners. I had to have the steering wheel bearing replaced for my MOT, and when that was done the horn stopped beeping when it wasn't supposed to.
