Old German van gas systems?

Have looked in Wiki and it's not at all clear to me.

How does the original German (no bottle?) gas system work.

We've seen a west joker with this and what seems to be a 2-way fridge, would it convert to using a leisure battery or would we need a new fridge?

Thanks for your help on this.

Do you mean a camper with the underslung gas tank as opposed to a removable gas cylinder? Most/all Jokers will have had one or the other gas system. Fridge should be a 3 way type, 12V, 240V and gas.

Is the `van an American import model (Vanagon) because they had some differences.

I will ask owner for more details ref. Gas tank / bottle. I'd never heard of an underslung tank. Thanks

So are all fridges 3-way? If so then I assume if I fit a leisure battery it will run off that then will it? . . can you tell I'm a novice?
