Rattling water pump

I have about 2mm of play at the pulley (edge) suggesting (I guess) that the water pump is on the way out.
Does this suggest replacement required?

The haynes suggests that it is non servicable (not that I would know where to start anyway).
If so - can anyone give me any idea of cost VW vs aftermarket?

I have a replacement metal pipe (Water pump heading fwd round the LH side of engine towards thermostat and the o ring to attach to the waterpump - and need to change Coolant and have a catering supply of VW G12+ waiting)

Not keen to do the change myself as several threads have scared me off (snapped studs etc.) but will use highly recommended local gge)

If a garage is going to be doing the work, they usually like to source the bits themselves. If they are happy for you to supply the parts for them, I`d get onto GSF for a new pump. Also check which gaskets etc will be required for the various jobs they will be doing, so as not to stop the work in mid-spannering. That`s the reason most garages want to order the stuff themselves, so they get everything first time.

For a diagram of exploded parts, get onto:

www.vagcat.com

registering is free, and you can see what you`ll be having swapped, so gaskets etc will become apparent in the diagrams. If you`re not too mechanically minded I`d let them do the ordering, or you`ll get the blame if the parts turn out to be wrong :? They`ll order from GSF or similar anyway.
