Hi I have a 1.6 petrol vw transporter. I am trying to change the oil but cant get the bolt undone. The vehicle has not run for about 10 years. Its not a bolt type, it has a groove in it about thicness of a 2p piece.
I gather I am looking at the right part.
Any help would be much appreciated

Think you might be looking at the cap for the oil pressure relief valve there, mate, the oil drain plug is fairly central, under the engine, and usually a hex. head bolt, or if it's been replaced, sometimes a hex socket bolt (hole for an allen key)

Its a bit messy but to change oil on the 1.6 petrol (CT engine code) you have to undo 8 retaining bolts on the round oil strainer underneath the engine oil sump. Check to make sure the strainer is clear when removed and as they say, re-assembly is the reverse of removal!
Had to do this a few times on mine!
