im just trying to work out the tyre ratios.

what is the correct original spec tyre for a t25

i know its a 185 14c tyre but whats the aspect ratio of the original tyre?

is it 70, 75 or 80 ?

I found this on an MOT related site, and was going to post it, but the Reverend beat me to it. I will try to find the site in a mo........ Yer'tis.....Here Scroll down a bit........

'Unless marked otherwise, “standard"| car tyres have a nominal aspect ratio of 82%. Some tyres have an aspect ratio of 80%. These have “/80"| included in their size marking eg 165/80 R13.'

Load ratings are equally important... I wouldn't fit any thing less than 97.

Another standard size and now becoming dificult to source is the:
205/70R14 97/100 as seen on many standard Carat Wheels.

But it's the load rating and not necessarily the speed that is most important! as many T25's you see being driven today are fitted with larger alloys with ordinary 'ROAD TYRES' fitted, certainly the speed rating requiement is easily met but NOT the load speed index rating. Many of these road tyres are only rated between 87 and 91 which simply is not sufficient for a fully loaded T25.
I would be recommending a minimum rating of 95 which eliminates most ordinary road tyres so you need to be looking at 'commercially rated' tyre listings, well.....they are vans afterall!

Mine are only 87 rated - 195x15 on Merc steel wheels Maybe not carrying as much weight as all the campers but the offset is spot on and it corners like a hatchback! Even Merc Doctor said how right it looked when he saw it - wheels just come nicely up to the arches givng it real grip. Since removed the silly wheeltrims and gone for basic painted black wheels:

And if.......god forbid! you were involved in a serious incident, RTA etc you would be hung out to dry as soon as the vehicle examiners spot the inadequate tyre ratings.
Not wishing to have a go, I just don't understand anyone who knowingly puts themselves, their love ones and Joe public at risk for the sake of asthetics.

Standard size tyres were rated at 97 according to the official VW manual. I go with what Red Westie says, correct load rated tyres are available for most sizes of wheels, so if you skimp on them you could pay dearly if the sh+t hits the fan

It`s dead simple really, if you arn`t sure, just ring your friendly insurance company, explain what you`ve done modification wise, what load rated tyres you`ve got on the wheels (probably the car rated ones that cheap set of Merc/ Audi alloys came with off Ebay) and then see if you`re still insured

Anything else is just opinion
