thinking of buying a syncro its a 1988 1.6td with 224000km on the clock body is very good and nice westfalia conversion just heard back from the owner

i am not sure but i think that it's type 14",there are front and rear difllocks but the front don't work.I don't
know what is vc.I take it 4 years ago and i have changed the"alternateur" and the electrical battery
Am worried about the front diff and why its not working anything else i should be worried about and if its just the diff can i live without it affecting the rest and how much would it cost to put it right don't want to waste my time flying over so any info would be much appreciated thanks

The diff locks work on a vacuum, there could be a problem with the switch or pipes.

Sometimes the pin gets stuck in the diff which is harder to sort out.

VC Is Viscous Coupling in the front gearbox/diff unit. When the rear wheels loose grip the front wheels grip & engage the 4WD.

You can check to see if it works by jacking up the rear of the car & carefully trying to drive forward. It should pull the car along on the jack if it is working ok.

Have you got any details of the van you are looking to buy? Alot of Syncro's are known to members in here & they might be able to shed some light on it being a good one or not.

14" is the most common model.

Is it a genuine westy? or a van converted with westy parts?
CT... Controle Technique? this should be no more than 6 months old at the time of sale.. they are every 2 years.. a copy of the current one would be good as it will have any advisories on it.. and you can have a lot of "advisories" without a fail... (friends C15 van had 2 pages of faults.. still said PASS on it.....)

Any idea of his price?
It wont be cheap and if it is I think there will be a reason.. your average second hand vehicle in France is a lot more than in the UK or other countries.. and if a gen westy french reg from new it will comand a good price in France.. its very difficult to register a full camper in France as regulations are tight.. Yes, there are some cheap/bargains out there but not often..

Have you managed to get any pics?

It may have been to one of the events I have so I may know of it..

If its still for sale in a few weeks its poss (depends on where) I could have a trip down meet you and have a look..
