flashing red light continued, (now water pump woes!)

Ok I've finally tracked my water leak down to the shaft of the water pump. (Very obvious now I've seen it, spraying water when the engines running).

There's a bearing noise from that side of the engine too. might it be the water pump?

what can be done to rescue the pump?

Or should I take the whole pump off and swap it for the one on my spare engine?

Or is it such a bugger of a job that I should just swap engines?

All helpful sugestions gratefully recieved (and amusing ones)

Dave.

Oh, it's a 1.9 dg engine.....

Dave, I had this on mine, change the pump, its not too hard, hey even I did it! I think the pump was 30 quids or something like that, few spanners, allen keys and off you go, a steel water pipe runs from the pump behind the fanbelt cog, you may need to undo the other end of this pipe to wiggle out the pump better.
Hey presto, jobs a goodun.

dave for the price of them new i think id put a new pump on.if you use the one off the spare engine you dont know how long the pump will last
its not worth taking a chance with, changing the engine just for the water pump sounds a bit severe unless you think there might be something else up with the engine thats in

Ta for the advice,

My spare engine's got a brand new pump on it, so I'll use that one.

There is a really knackered bearing type noise coming from the left hand side of the engine bay, I'm hoping it's the water pump, but it might be coming from the head..... rocker maybe?

Anyways I'll swap the pump over and see whats what.

Got to get the van surgery done before I have my wisdom removal surgery done on monday  .
