Advice on the best way to go with my twin Solex Carbs

Hi Guys

Bev has been having a bit of a convo with Ermie about this subject, Ermie has suggested we ask here.

My van has a 2 litre air cooled with twin solex carbs on it. I've had a mechanic out (who was surprised that it wasn't fuel injected?) to try to balance the carbs and he has said that they are going to need replacing 'soonish' He has suggested going down the route of a single Webber conversion?

I was going to try rebuilding what I've got but the the trouble is someone in the past has knackered the left carb by driving a self tapping screw in where there should be a grub screw for the idle control.

I know absolutely nothing about carbs, I will be the first to admit that.

It's not something that I am going to be able to afford to do right at this moment, but I was wondering whether I could have your thoughts on the best way forward.

Thanks again guys

Steve
