Caravelle Seat Rearrangement?

I have a 91 SA microbus with factory seats. I have just bought a replacement set of caravelle seats. The latter has arm rests, head rests and a 2 X 3 configuration rather than a 3 X 3 like I have now.
Anyway, what I was thinking was that I might swap the back benches but then, instead of putting the 2-seater back in place, turn it so it backs against the wall opposite the slider, leaving a large open space in the middle. Any thoughts on this?

Just a little bump up before I start drilling holes.

would leave a bit more room but do you need all seats to have seatbelts just they wont work as required on one turned??

It can be done .. my middle seat runs on rails and I have fitted it this way .. trouble is you lose access from the front if the front has 2 seats and a walkway through.
Seatbelts will work on the rebound if you make sure the locking mechanism works when you yank the belt. My middle seat 3 point seatbelts are fitted to the seat base rather than the van sides .. but make sure the seat is well bolted down of you do this ... you don't want a seat flying around the back of the van in a crash!
Hope this helps

Right mine are on runners too. I've got a couple questions. Do I understand you right, you've put the two seater with it's back to the wall opposite the sliding door? Are you saying that doing this makes it hard to get through the walktrhough?
Also, can you tell me more about the three point belts as this is just what I had in mind, using the structure itself for all mounting points. How did you sort the upper belt point?
Pictures would be VERY much appreciated.

Shane ... why not go the multivan route? Extra money for the seats and not the L shape you are talking about, but works really well. Easily removed too if necessary. We've just bought a Whitestar and the interior space is fab. 3 point belts now fitted on the rear facing seats.
I can't see how the belts (even 3 point) will be of much use for the passengers travelling sideways.

(just my opinion though)
Cheers

I just paid for the caravelle seats, even though my current ones are minters!
To my mind, being sat sideways in a smash couldn't be much worse than being backwards?
