Missing parts?

I did a search for this issue and found reference to parts missing/being removed from near the heat exchangers.
Has the same thing happened to my van?
Can anyone tell me what is supposed to go into those holes/ducts/tubes?

Thanks for any help.

Apologies if I don't reply straight away...I'm off to Ardnamurchan for the weekend! :D

Missing parts?

The missing parts are probably the corrugated cardboard/foil tubes one of which acts as a pre-heater hose to direct warm air from the exhaust to the air cleaner/carb during cold winter weather. :)

I still have an air-cold Haynes manual somewhere but it's not at hand just now so I can't find out what the other one is for. :(

It looks like the 'Dome' caps are missing - if they were ever there in the first place.

When you don't need the hot air that is constant at the heat exchanger, the flap inside the box shown, diverts the hot air from the trunking and allows it to escape to the atmosphere via the openings you can see in your pics. Mine have dome shaped covers over the exit holes to stop the hot air from causing mischief to the surrounding areas...but yours seem to have gone walkabout.

My caps are located on the top, perhaps yours is a different model diverter, exiting down-over onto the exhaust, therefore not requiring the caps?

Having a VW camper can be quite mysterious...don't you think?

It looks like you are missing the heat riser pipes from the back on the heat exchanger up to the part you have circled?

These ones...

That sounds more plausible than my guess!

Guys (an' gals?),

Thanks very much for the replies.

The elbows that pouch mentions- do they take the heat from the exchangers to the cab? That would explain my frozen knackers

Tex- yes, owning a VW camper can be very mysterious; like the mystery we had today when the fuel pump went gaga- will we be stranded here??? [img:409:268]http://usera.imagecave.com/peacethrough ... amurch.jpg[/img] :?
