Hi,

I need some help and advice please.

I have a Gasure conversion on my T25 1.9 petrol. I am only getting about 120 miles per fill-up (45 lt round tank). The fule consumpuion at its best was only about 150. I do lots of short runs but even so this is becoming dreadfully expensive. It also doesn't run right. I get quite a few cut-outs, often on down hill slope junctions for some reason! and when I start up again I often get a backfire as well... though not every time.. I have single electrode plugs which were set at 25 as recommended). It also seems to be running a bit fast.

I am in Norfolk so miles from Pete who did the conversion (if you are coming this way Pete please let me know and I will get it over to you).

my conversion does about 130 to 140 on a run but round town drops to about 120 on a 45 ltr tank I thought this was about the norm ??? but if i am in and around taunton i just use it on petrol if its stop start !!

For comparison our 2.1 gassed carb did 191 miles on 50 litres last week, that's commuting round the Peak District. That's a fully loaded hightop campe r. I'd suspect you're using a tad too much ... the 1.9 used to average 170 on 50.

This all seems a bit strange, I was under the impression that an lpg system was almost as good mpg wise as it is running on petrol. a 45ltr tank is a good size for discussion cos its virtually 10 gallons so 120 miles on a tank is 12mpg
to get the cost savings of converting to lpg that are often mentioned all over this forum surely it is supposed to be about 20 mpg (200 miles per tank) for your average 1.9 watercooled van?!

All depends on who did it and if they showed you how to adjust it.

2.0 air cooled will be anything from 14 - 20 mpg

1.9 will be 20 - 24 mpg on a run 18-20 round town

2.1 will be roughly the same

If you do short journeys were the choke is on constantly then it will impact dramatically on the mpg, I've just had one who does 3 miles per day on the school run and wondered why it only worked out at 12 mpg.

Once converted it should be "run in" then taken back to the installer for reset, this checks that nothing has rattled loose and that all the mixtures are correct, they can settle rich or weak, either way it needs to be checked.

It is then down to the OWNER to adjust the system on the restrictor or "power valve" to get the best mpg, in the case of a Gasure.UK conversion the procedure is written down clearly in the instruction book supplied with the system.

I assume that you are not relying on the LED display for your tank capacity which is innacurate? A simple way to test consumption on lpg (assuming that your petrol mpg is normal) is to fill up with lpg and do a round trip of around 20 miles on an open road. Return to the same lpg station (the pressure from the fill tank will not have changed much) and top up. Note the amount you have topped up with and calculate your consumption. Are you cold starting on a regular basis?

I topped up in Chester (£25 for a 45lt tank) then drove home to Bristol which is about 160 miles, I then topped up at my local station and only had to put about £19 in. This means I did 160 miles for £19.not bad at all.
around town I just did 140 miles for £20 with a bit left in the tank.

That's so much cheaper than petrol.
