Can anyone out there help a damsel in distress?!! I have a 1984 transporter, manual, with a 2.1 petrol engine. I say with engine but at the moment it's actually without engine! The head gasket went recently but while being fixed, as the very last stud was going back in, the little blighter snapped!!! We took it to a local engineer who couldn't get it out. Does anyone know if this is worth trying to get fixed, or even if it is fixable and if so, is there anyone recommended? Failing that, and possibly a cheaper option anyway, I'll be looking at replacing the engine. Can anyone suggest who would be able to supply and possibly fit one for me? Also any ideas on the cost of this? I've used local garages before but think I need a specialist on this! I'm also curious to know what other units will fit in it, does anyone know or even have any for sale? I'm based in West Wales but am prepared to get it towed to wherever it needs to be, I just want it fixed now to use for Summer, it's been three months and a big headache !!! I would really really appreciate ANY help, advice or services that anyone can offer or suggest. Cheers, hope to hear from someone soon!

You're lucky the stud went on assembly, not on the road. If one is corroded enough to snap, the others must be suspect. That is unless you over lubricated the nuts befor you tightened them in which case, they just keep turning until something gives.

1984 would usually be a 1.9 engine. If you're running 2.1 and a carb, you need to watch out for the compression ratio. The DJ engine is very high compression. Best to use MV pistons in that with carbs or recess the heads.

Can you see the end of the broken stud? Does it protrude from the block or is it recessed?

How much does it protrude or how much is it recessed by?

Hi millie - if by broken stud you mean the one that sits next to the spark plug then i have a similar problem - i live in pembroke dock and have trawled the forums for this answer - and had the same advice as other posts - however i am in the processing of trying to save the engine and came across a garage at broadhaven (a guy called roger works on t25's) and he was very informative - not sure of the costs however his phone number is 01437 781477 - hope this helps - regards - john
