Between a manual engine and an autobox engine? Remtec list a reconditioned 2ltr CU engine, but if it's for an auto it costs more and takes longer? Any ideas?

I can't help you with the differences, but Vege do a CU engine.
Cost was about £1400 inc VAT and return engine..

It was cheaper than the Remtec quotes I had.

there isnt any difference with the basic engine, but the flywheel is very different, so im guessing the flywheel is included with either??

My engine way deleivered without a flywheel.

Aparently on the Type 4 style of engines, the end float is set without the flywheel, so it is a "straightforward" bolt on affair.

So as long as you have a flywheel from an auto box, it should be possible.... maybe

a pure guess but maybe the auto revs higher????? or is built to withstand high revs more often. just guessing tho

How much! Surely there should be a decimal point in there somewhere! I feel an attempt to fix it may be in order first. Now where's that sawdust....

Is it maybe the camshaft, diferent torque and power band, that sort of thing? I may have a manual 2ltr Aircooled lined up you see. If it's only the flywheel, no worries, but if it'sthe camshaft and torque bands, well, that's a different manner. I've scanned the Haynes, but I can't see any difference in the engine specifications section.

I suspect that "Laurie" on here of "Laurie Petit" (sp) - (VW engine re-builds) fame might know all about this ?
