running in - how?

following on from TTT comment in the vege playing up thread....
I am shortly to take ownership of a recon (elite) 2.1. How should I run it in?
Will be run-in on unleaded following advice from gasure - also timed to run on unleaded or I will go bankrupt! (800 miles on superunleaded

££££££

)
It will then be altered to run on standard timing for LPG and the petrol in the tank will be super. (again, gasure advice)
so...knowing all the above, how do I run it it in? I have a rev counter on the dash.....
Expecting lots of different takes on this....

try and keep to 3000-3300 rpm max but don't lugg it either, 500 miles oil change, get elite to do it and they'll give 2 year warranty.

If there advising being very gentle that says alot for their confidence in their rebuilds. End of the day you get what you pay for and these waterleakers are very cheap IF they replace what they say.

cheerz....dunno what they say...from what I remember from John's they said to just drive normally, but son't thrash the wotsits off it until a few hundred miles have gone past.
John's is two years old now - has had all the servicing done by elilte (that's where they really make their money...say six services approx 100 each time.) and the engine hasn't missed a beat in those two years. Looking forward to getting mine.
thanks folks

VW were run at maximum revs for 3 minutes, not suren if they still do it, because it meens 3 minutes longer to build car

Simon,
with the 1.9 3,200 revs was just over 60mph in 5th gear on the clock. The green area of the rev counter was 1800 to 3500 I think (haven't seen it for a while). Know I touched 4000+ a couple of times, but very rarely.
"Normal" driving was around the 2500 mark. Am I right in assuming its not speed thats the critical thing, its the revs (although closely linked).
so, first 300 miles no more than 3000 revs. Not got a rev counter running on either of the other 2.1s so will be interesting to see what this relates to. Me thinks I won't be in 5th gear much to start with, or I will be lugging it!
thanks for the advice folks

Thought there was something in the Wiki on this... will have a dig a round, if not there perhaps shold be broad suggestions.
