can anyone recomend a seam sealant to use on my seams after i've vactan'd them? went to halfords but they didn't have any.

got some stuff from a local motor factors to do the area around my new wheel arch repair panel, polyurethane seam sealer (black) in a cartridge for use in a sealant gun, sikaflex it was called, bout 7 quid for a tube. i smoothed it out until it looked like the other seams, with a rag soaked in thinners, but be careful not to rub the primer away too! it made a neat job in the end.

ah brill, thanks. heard of sikaflex before, will try and get some of that. can i just ask, did you treat the rust, then prime then seal, then paint?

Sikaflex is a brand name, Tigerseal is another name for the same type of stuff.
I have used this which is another brand http://www.arco.co.uk/products/4483620/15872/ for many jobs and it bonds well to everything for half the price.
They are all PU sealants, you will find that you can use white spirit to clean it off before it drys and that won't take off you primer. It you dip your finger in white spirit then run it over the stuff it leaves a smooth finish that looks good. Its a good idea to wear disposable gloves because it sticks to skin and then refuses to be scrubbed off leaving dirty looking fingers long after oil and dirt has gone.
If it were me I would treat, prime, then paint to seal the primer, then use sealant, then paint again.

yep, i did mine pretty much as Cyclonemike said, thorough de-rust with a wire cupwheel in angle grinder, degrease and clean out well, thoroughly dry with hot air gun( possibly unnecessary, but i did it!) vactan, prime well ,seam sealer, then more primer and paint.
