Having just swapped ours over (which Mercus warned me about on the pre MOT check round  ) I thought I'd report back on the subject.

£32.90 plus £4 carriage

To replace the bushes you'll need :-

13mm ring spanners
13mm socket & ratchet
6 new M8 nyloc nuts
Bush pulling contraption

Method :-

Put the van in reverse and apply the handbrake and steering lock with the wheels as straight as possible.

Jack up one front corner and support on axle stand.

Undo the 2 M8 (13mm spanners) bolts that hold the flexible coupling just before the rack.

Undo the 4 M8 bolts which fasten the rack to the crossmember, being very carefull with the last one. The rack will now lower down, preferably not at speed into your teeth.

Using the bush removal contraption .... an M8 x 100 setscrew, a 27mm socket, 2 M8 washers and an M8 plain nut. Place 1 washer on the bolt, place this through the bush and through the socket (on the other side of the rack) then a washer and finally the plain nut. Holding the head of the bolt wind the plain nut up ... thus pulling the bush into the socket.

Wipe out the holes in the rack, lubricate (using coppaslip provided) and fit the new bushes and slip the stainless sleeve through the centre.

Bolt the steering rack back to the crossmember, using 4 new M8 nyloc nuts.

Bolt the flexible coupling back together (you'll probably need some one to gently rock the steering wheel to line up the second bolt) using the remaining new M8 nylocs.

Check for tightness. Lower van. Test drive.

Poor cold beer, congratulations. Time taken roughly an hour and a half.

Hope this is of use to someone, the bushes are superb and quite easy to fit by hand.

Cheers, Ian.

Well done, thats another job on my "to do" list. How does she drive, is there any difference?? Would it be worth doing simply to improve the steering, or better off waiting till their knackered.

Simon, there is a noticeable difference, all four of our's were worn ... one much worse than the others though. I could feel it in severe cross-winds move sideways on the steering.

I'd certainly recommend them.
