240v hook up

Got my 240v hook up installed. Sparky coming to check it all out over the weekend

. Just as I finished the boss woman came out (when the work was done) and said "Is it the same electrickery as we have in the house now?"

When I said "Yes dear, sort of" she suggested getting the oil filled radiator out of the loft and fastening it in the van!
My questions are:
1) When you use 240v hook up at a campsite, do you pay a set fee regardless of how much power you use, or is it metered?
2) Anyone used an oil filled radiator in their van? Any problems or, more importantly, risks?
Thanks

When pying for electric you use as much as you need, not metered, well hasn't been when I've hooked up anywhere!
I use an oil filled rad, good to use if you haven't got an eber/propex heater, keeps it wrm on colder nights.

I've used one alot without problems, but some tight site owners fit small fuse's which mean you trip out the site box where your plugged in. This tends to happen more if you turn other things on as well as the rad.
They love to come around then n tell ya your using too much electric. Had this on a site in Bath, charged a fortune for everything then moaned if you used it!

oil filled are nice and quiet, but not enough if it reet cold, a cheapo fan heater on 1k setting will work on all uk campsites and kicks out loads more heat imo.......

We use a fan heater off the site mains and also have a 2 ring electric hob to cook on rather than use the gas when we hook up

Got a diesel eber but when hooked up to leccy, use a fan heater to warm the bus up and use a small oil filled radiator during the night in winter just to stop the temp dropping to much
Never been metered yet but im sure that day will come

Thanks for replies. Can you reply again 68bay. I think my eyes are going funny, I'm seeing double!
So. it's use the oil filled then, just to stop the pipes freezing up!
As they say on "millionaire", I thought that was the answer.
Thanks again folks, great advice, as ever!

on the very and i mean very rare occasion that i have a hook up, ususally when you don't get a better price if you don't have a hook up or if they are offering it for free, we use a fan heater mostly because it uses just about all the electric that will fit through the tiny breakers that they have and they are far less efficient that oil filled rads so i can be more sure that i am getting my monies worth!

Campsites seem to offer around 10A at the hook-up post (some offer more, but not common), so you need to watch what you are plugging in at any one time. A 2kw fan heater run on ONLY ONE BAR ie 1kw (standard sort of thing that most people use) will draw approx 4 amps, so that leaves a bit to play with.
