Ignition Upgrade

Do the Pertronix ingnition upgrade sets work/fit to an early 1.9 wasserboxer? If so has anyone done it and to what effect?
Petronix would be a downgrade on the water boxer. If you have early, just connect the plugs from the Idle stabiliser unit together and go.
Make sure your vacuums work.
